Time to restart a project, that I started back in 2014. Which was trying to take a photo of every bridge, tunnel and viaduct, that still remain on the old railway line between Bourne and Saxby.
Check out www.gordon-valentine.com/zenphoto/england/bourne-to-saxby-railway-line/ for the photos, I’ve got so far!
Those fab photos of the Bourne to Saxby bridges – are you going to complete the collection?? There should be about 63 Bridges! Though at least one was demolished in the Quarry. Michael
I would love to complete the collection, but so many of them are on private land, with no public right of way’s close by.
A-Ha! I understand. Pity! There is, however, a book: ‘Building a Railway’ which includes photos of all the Bridges when the line was built – and the actual building of them! It’s from the Lincoln Record Society, edited by Stewart Squires and Ken Hollamby. Your excellent photos shew them as they now are – which is just as important. It is quite a large book – 13″ X 9 1/2″ of 151 pages. So sorry to hear about your friend. I agree – too young – I am more than twice that age so am enjoying your zest for life! Stay safe! Michael
https://groups.io/g/mgncirclemembers/photo/164241/3/Bridge%2043?p=Name,,Structures,20,1,0,0 and this is Bridge 43, which is waiting to be put in place over the G.N.R. (as was)
Unfortunately Bridge 234 in Bourne was demolished to be replaced with houses.
The bridge ( No 10 ) looks very much like “cuckoo bridge” just outside Wymondham on the road to Buckminster. About 18 months ago, foliage was hacked back and quite a bit of a wing wall was rebuilt as well a lot of repointing. As you walk through, from Wymondham, look for the hobnail boot print in one of the blue bricks on the left hand side.
