Abandoned Railways from Above (Channel 4/HD | 8:20pm to 9:20pm | Saturday 12th October 2024

Wales. Series 1, episode 4. A line in Wales that connected rural communities and helped industries boom, from Aberystwyth to Carmarthen. The line runs south to Strata Florida and the eerie ruins of a once-thriving milk factory at Pont Llanio. At Pencader, an abandoned tunnel, the longest in west Wales, serves as a reminder that hope for re-opening this line is not lost quite yet.

Waterloo Road (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 15th October 2024)

Steve and Billy are forced to face the consequences of their actions when suspicions rise and the police get involved. Kelly Jo finds her voice as she calls out injustice and rallies the students to fight to save a youth centre.

Plus, a look at Robin Hood’s Bay to discover how it was transformed into a popular tourist destination.

Billy decides it’s time to stand up for himself against Schuey but when his plan leads to disaster he’s forced to finally ask for help. Steve wonders just how far he’s willing to go for his son. Bombing Brighton: The Plot To Kill Thatcher (BBC 2/HD | 9:00pm to 10:15pm | Tuesday 8th October 2024)

An exploration of one of the IRA’s most significant attacks on mainland Britain during the Troubles, which killed five people and seriously injured 34 others. Directly targeting Margaret Thatcher, the bomb was planted three weeks before the Conservative Party conference, hidden beneath a bathtub in room 629 of Brighton’s Grand Hotel. This programme features new testimony from many of those affected and an interview Patrick Magee gave in 2022 about his role in the bombing.

Herriot Way. Series 1, episode 5. Dan Walker and Helen Skelton explore the hidden delights of Swaledale and Wensleydale along the Herriot Way. As Hud and Miller interrogate Abby about her past, Saj realises that this is his chance at the big time and decides to try to stop the train his way. Joe must deal with the deadly aftermath of the shooting, while working out whether or not to follow Saj’s orders or put his faith in his fellow passengers instead. Could retired train driver Fraser’s audacious plan really work?

The cyber attack on the rail network prevents Abby from seeing the obstacles in the sleeper’s path, leaving her in a race against time to avert disaster. Race leaders Kola and Mary Ellen walk a financial tightrope with just 10 percent of their budget left while Jeff and Freddy decide to make the most of the last stretch with an Argentinian steak dinner. Scott and Sam resort to selling hot dogs to boost their budget and Kelly and Jeremy take a different route to the rest of the teams but a broken-down bus pushes them hours behind.
