Space Babies. Series 14, episode 1. Ncuti Gatwa stars in his first full series as the Time Lord alongside Millie Gibson as his companion Ruby, following their debut in 2023’s Christmas special. In the far future, Ruby learns the Doctor’s amazing secrets when they encounter a baby farm being run by babies and being haunted by a mysterious Bogeyman.

The Devil’s Chord. Series 14, episode 2. The Doctor and Ruby meet the Beatles during a trip back to the 1960s, but discover that the all-powerful Maestro is hatching a plot to change history, with the Fab Four in the thick of it. Abbey Road becomes a battleground with the future of humanity at stake. Guest starring Drag Race’s Jinkx Monsoon.

The Eurovision Song Contest (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 11:55pm | Saturday 11th May 2024)

Live coverage of the 68th annual song competition from the Malmö Arena, Sweden – 50 years since Abba, the nation’s most famous musical exports, lifted the trophy with Waterloo, turning them into the most successful Eurovision act of all time. The show is hosted by Hollywood actress Malin Åkerman and Eurovision veteran Petra Mede, with BBC commentary as always from Graham Norton. He’ll no doubt be flying the flag for UK entry Olly Alexander, with his song Dizzy, and Bambie Thug, the first Irish act to have qualified in eight years with Doomsday Blue.

After enjoying the tranquillity of the islands of Koh Phi Phi, the teams leave Thailand and travel across Malaysia to the Indonesian island of Sumatra where the sixth checkpoint lies in the mountain-fringed city of Bukittinggi. Every decision counts as budgets dwindle and pressure increases.

Grand Tours of Scotland’s Rivers (BBC 2/HD | 7:00pm to 7:30pm | Friday 17th May 2024)

From the Trossachs to the Kelpies. Series 3, episode 5. Seasoned traveller Paul Murton continues his journey down the River Forth, travelling from the picturesque Trossachs to the Kelpies statues in Falkirk. On this leg of the journey he learns about Big Noise in the city of Stirling, a movement that champions musical skills for young people from less privileged backgrounds, and discovers the story of a teenage backing group in the riverside town of Alloa who played a gig with Johnny Gentle in 1960.

Britain by Steam (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 17th May 2024)

Dorset. Series 2, episode 3. The travellers take a T3 train, restored to her former glory, for a journey through the Dorset countryside. John Sergeant and Peter Davison reminisce about their childhood and the holidays they spent here in the county. John, Peter and Paul ‘Piglet’ Middleton also enjoy sights including Corfe Castle, Chesil Beach, Portland Bill lighthouse and Abbotsbury Swannery.

The Eurovision Song Contest (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 12:00am | Saturday 13th May 2023)

Final. Series 2022. Graham Norton, Hannah Waddingham, Alesha Dixon and Julia Sanina present the 67th annual song competition from Liverpool, with singer-songwriter Mae Muller representing the UK with I Wrote a Song. The show also features performances from last year’s first and second place acts, Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra and the UK’s Sam Ryder, as well as a celebration of the host city’s incredible contribution to the world of pop music featuring six past Eurovision winners – including Liverpool’s own Sonia. Graham also shares commentary duties with Mel Giedroyc.

Grand Tours of Scotland’s Rivers (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 8:30pm | Monday 15th May 2023)

A Bountiful River. Series 1, episode 3. Paul Murton explores the lower reaches of the Spey, famous for its forests, whisky distilleries and salmon as it flows north towards the coast. On the way Paul hears tales of loggers who floated timber down the river from the 17th century onwards. He also takes to the water in a canoe and discovers the rare and endangered freshwater mussels that were once harvested for their precious pearls, which adorn royal crowns.

Waterloo Road (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Tuesday 16th May 2023) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

Kim is rocked by a blast from the past and a new pupil causes problems. Joe and Mike begin to question their future as they are faced with the realities of fatherhood. Kai struggles with his feeling for Preston and Danny makes a bold move as his future hangs in the balance.

Britain by Steam (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 16th May 2023 )

John, Peter and Paul set off from Whitby in their first vehicle of the day, a 1937 open-topped steam lorry, but when it breaks down, the trio have to hitch a ride to Beamish, the living history museum. From Beamish they head to the oldest railway line in the world, before hopping on a steam launch on the River Tyne. With just 75 miles to go and their journey coming to an end, they jump in their final steam vehicle and set off for the Scottish border.

The Eurovision Song Contest (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 12:00am | Saturday 14th May 2022) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

Coverage of the 66th staging of the annual song competition, hosted by Italian TV and radio presenter Alessandro Cattelan and singers Laura Pausini and Mika from PalaOlimpico in Turin, following Italy’s victory in last year’s event with Zitti e buoni by Måneskin. The United Kingdom is represented this year by singer and social media personality Sam Ryder, who will be performing Space Man, which he co-wrote with Grammy-winner Amy Wadge and Max Wolfgang during the pandemic. The current favourite to win are Ukraine’s entry Kalush Orchestra with their song Stefania, who have been granted special permission to leave the country to perform gigs in Tel Aviv and Amsterdam ahead of the main event. Graham Norton will once again commentate and bring his distinctive charm to the spectacular event.

The Airport: Back in the Skies (BBC 1/HD | 8:30pm to 9:00pm | Monday 16th May 2022)

In early November, Heathrow’s most lucrative US routes are opening up to double-vaxxed passengers. Two aircraft prepare for a historic dual take-off. Hayley, a senior airfield officer, is back from furlough and resolving gridlock on the taxiway as two planes come face to face. Footfall is growing but lost revenue from the closure of shops and restaurants poses a serious risk to Heathrow’s survival. Jeremy Spake meets an entrepreneur who is setting up a new restaurant in Terminal 2.

The team are in Corby, Northamptonshire, to complete a build for Jackie and Colin Hutchison and their three children. The eldest, Jordan, has cerebral palsy and epilepsy – but this has not stopped him raising huge sums of money for charity. However, he and his family are currently living with his grandmother after a after a series of building issues left them without the money to complete their own home renovation. As ever, Nick Knowles and the team, plus hundreds of local workers, arrive to change this family’s life in just a few short days.

Tim Dunn and Siddy Holloway explore King William Street, the original terminus of the first electric Tube in the world.

Return of the travel series narrated by Bill Nighy, beginning with a trip from the Kyle of Lochalsh, a tiny fishing village on the far west coast of Scotland. The jounrney heads east across the Highlands, then turns south through the whisky country of Speyside to Aberdeen, Scotland’s oil capital.

World’s Most Amazing Tractors (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 20th May 2022) ** NEW SERIES **

Getting to grips with the biggest, fastest and most powerful tractors on the planet, including those in Alaska, Florida and the UK. There’s a look in Montana at the biggest tractor ever built, a self-driving tractor with pinpoint precision in Cambridgeshire and a report on the sport of tractor pulling from Florida.
