Around the World by Train with Tony Robinson - 27-03-2020 - YouView appMarvel’s Avengers Assemble (BBC 1/HD | 7:00pm to 9:15pm | Saturday 21st March 2020)

A mystical artefact is stolen from a top-secret military base by Thor’s brother Loki, who plans to use it to bring about an alien invasion. Spymaster Nick Fury brings together a team of superheroes, including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk, to defend Earth from the impending attack. Action adventure uniting the Marvel comic-book characters, starring Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L Jackson.

Race Across the World (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 22nd March 2020)

The teams set off from Panama City across the Caribbean Sea, but they face an unplanned obstacle when a state of emergency is declared in Quito, Ecuador – the destination of their next checkpoint. The teams are forced to change route in mid-race and head into the remote Colombian desert. Rob and Jen make use of night buses to get ahead, Emon and Jamiul raise some money by teaching scuba diving, and Sam struggles with the pressure and needs a break.

The Station: Trouble On The Tracks (itv/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Thursday 26th March 2020)

The rail mobile detection team discovers a high-tech home – complete with electricity, running water and TV – illegally erected under an arch beside one of the country’s busiest areas of track. At Euston, Transport Police officers are called upon when tempers flare – and deal with an unusual Royal request. Meanwhile, a strike hits Birmingham’s New Street Station and the rail network on one of the busiest days of the year. With industrial action on West Midlands Trains, many passengers are left high and dry, and it’s down to Network Rail to deliver the bad news.

Around the World by Train with Tony Robinson (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 27th March 2020)

The actor begins another global adventure, setting off from London’s St Pancras station on a quest to explore southern Europe in a whole new way. His first stop in France is the Camargue in the country’s south, where he helps ranchers herd bulls across vast fields, then heads to Spain’s Costa Brava and visits Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium.

Britain by Barge - 20-03-2020 - YouView appRace Across the World (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 15th March 2020)

The teams head out of Copan Ruinas in Western Honduras to their next checkpoint – Panama City. The journey sees them travel across vast swathes of Central America, passing through El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and finally Panama. Mother and son Jo and Sam are the first to set off, and having raced hard in the previous leg, they’re keen to experience more this time round. Working at a hostel in El Salvador offers some respite from the race, and gives the pair the chance to help with a turtle conservation project.

Britain’s Train Hell – Dispatches (Channel 4 | 8:30pm to 9:00pm | Monday 16th March 2020)

Despite rising fares, millions of rail commuters suffer daily from delays and overcrowding. The Government wants to spend billions on new infrastructure, particularly in the north of England with HS2, but the new high-speed supertrain won’t arrive until 2040. In the meantime, Liam Halligan asks how the rail network can be fixed.

Euston is evacuated during Friday rush hour – leaving passengers there and in Birmingham New Street station stranded, confused and angry. Driver Andy reveals just how close his train came to disaster on the tracks and train dispatcher and former bank manager David imparts his worldly wisdom to a new recruit on his first shift. A train runs a red signal at Birmingham, so engineers have to work through the night to move the stranded locomotive, investigate the cause and get things back up and running before the morning rush.

The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 20th March 2020)

One of the biggest events on the NYMR timetable is the annual War Weekend. The event, which sees the whole railway transformed into a nostalgic snapshot of wartime Britain, is hugely popular with steam enthusiasts, war re-enactors and others fascinated by days gone by. Coming towards the end of the railway’s season the event is vital to bring in much-needed funds to see it through the quiet winter months. For its 20th year, the railway has brought in a new attraction – a huge Second World War artillery gun. However, getting the monster gun into position proves a mission in itself.

Bill Oddie, Jennie Bond, Anne Diamond and Pete Waterman learn how canals evolved into places of leisure. Pete revisit one of his childhood haunts, Braunston Marina, to meet the owner who turned around its fortunes, while Jennie discovers canal camping, an activity holiday popular with children since the 1960s. The foursome head off from Braunston taking the Oxford canal towards Banbury, discovering that the Oxford is a very different canal to those experienced earlier. Built by James Brindley to be as cheap as possible, it slowly carries them south through farmland and past sleepy villages.

The Station: Trouble On The Tracks - 12-03-2020 - YouView appRace Across the World (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 8th March 2020)

Five pairs of competitors journey around the globe, carrying only limited cash and unable to get on a plane or use mobile phones and credit cards. In the first edition, the teams set off from Mexico City, hoping to reach the first of seven checkpoints – Copan Ruinas in Honduras. Each team adopts a different strategy, with married couple Jen and Rob quickly deciding on a route via Belize, but confusion on the Metro leads to a delay.

The Station: Trouble On The Tracks (itv/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Thursday 12th March 2020)

Documentary following the staff of Network Rail, which operates the country’s railway tracks, focusing on Birmingham New Street station. Engineers battle the elements after extensive flooding, while beleaguered staff deal with stranded passengers demanding answers. Graffiti artist Banksy leaves Birmingham rail engineers a gift spray-painted on to one of the walls – all done under his usual veil of secrecy – and train manager Adam is faced with a passenger without a ticket.

The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 13th March 2020)

The August bank holiday coincides with a heatwave and in the old carriage kitchen, Sammie swelters with 100 meals to prepare and serve, while on the loco footplates the boiler kicks out an extra 1,000 degrees of heat. A trackside wall collapse threatens to stop the railway in its tracks, though a curious group of volunteers called the Wombles comes to the rescue, working through the night to get it fixed. Elsewhere, Piglet comes up with a money-spinner by sending one of the locos, little Engine 29, to another railway.

Britain by Barge (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:20pm | Friday 13th March 2020)

Bill Oddie, Jennie Bond, Anne Diamond and Pete Waterman head to Northamptonshire to navigate the mighty Grand Union Canal, at one time the busiest waterway on the network and the vital transport link between Birmingham and London. Travelling from north of Milton Keynes to the old canal port of Braunston, they celebrate the `boat people”, who once lived and worked on Britain’s canals, keen to uncover the secrets of this lost community. Travelling through a notoriously dark and deadly tunnel at Weedon Bec, they also visit a once secret arms store.

Documentary series exploring some of the busiest transport hubs in the world. In New York, Grand Central Terminal sees more than one million people per week use its platforms and cross its art deco terminus. Penn Station, on the west side of Manhattan, is the busiest terminal in the western hemisphere.

Devon and Cornwall (more4 | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 8th April 2019)

In Devon, the Alfords are one of the last farming families to tend Dartmoor’s wild ponies. Demand for the ponies is on the wane, and they must rely on other livestock for their living and nervously await the TB testing of their cattle. On the north Jurassic coast, local adventurers Mark Bullock and George Malkin take on the famous spectacular climb of Black Church Rock. In Cornwall, surfing pioneer Gwyn Haslock gives a tour while preparing for the World Belly Board Championships. Further west, in Poldark country, former miner Les Rowe makes a poignant return to the colliery where he laboured years ago, bringing the Cape Cornwall singers to Geevor to celebrate their shared Cornish heritage in song.

Grand Designs (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Thursday 11th April 2019)

In Bicester, Oxfordshire, Kevin McCloud follows 10 households as they embark on an epic five-year mission to construct their own homes and create a brand-new street as part of Britain’s biggest self-build project. In this episode, two young couples – Jack and Hannah, and James and Shannon – who are priced out of the local housing market, hope to get on the property ladder by building their own homes. Jack goes scavenging for raw materials and builds much of his house with his own labour. James and Shannon are making a barn-house home in a project that pushes their relationship to breaking point.

Travelogue series with Tony Robinson. The final stage of his journey takes Tony to the US. Beginning in San Francisco, he rides the rails across the country, stopping at Denver, New Orleans and New York City. At a legendary local sandwich shop, he finds himself sitting next to the mayor of New Orleans who explains how the city has been rebuilding since hurricane Katrina.

Devon and Cornwall (more4 | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 1st April 2019)

In this first episode, Devonian fisherman Stephen Perham shows what life is like in the tiny, perfectly preserved fishing village of Clovelly. Stephen’s family have lived and fished in the village for generations. Stephen is the harbour master, tour guide and bin man, and has a novel way of getting things up and down the main street. The village rowing team take part in the annual regatta. Fifth-generation master-thatcher Richard Dray needs to replace a roof in Cockington. In Cornwall, local handywoman Lynn Batten completes last-minute preparations at the famous Minack Theatre, as tourists from around the world are about to arrive for the triumphant season finale. And champion beef breeders Bridgette and Steve Clamp prepare their local pedigree cows for the Camborne agricultural show.

Silent Witness star Emilia Fox and Professor David Wilson re-examine the infamous murders, which took place in the Whitechapel district of London in the late 19th century.

In Bicester, Oxfordshire, in this new six-part series, Kevin McCloud follows 10 households as they embark on an epic five-year mission to construct their own homes and create a brand-new street as part of Britain’s biggest self-build project. In the first episode, Terry and Olwen, and their neighbour Lynn – all three of retirement age and the most senior builders on the street – set out to create two unique, bespoke new homes. Terry and Olwen’s home is planned to be a giant blue steel wedge forming a bold bookend at the beginning of the street. While the design of Lynn’s home proves to be as quirky as she is. But during the construction process, these old friends face serious structural challenges and physical hardship, as well as seeing their relationship severely tested.
