Catherine finds herself entangled in the case when an old friend becomes a murder suspect.

A scandalous discovery leads Tonya to taking drastic action and the school is plunged into darkness in a blackout. Preston takes the law into his own hands as Schuey continues to cause chaos. Summer is almost over, but in the seaside town of Sandown, there’s still plenty to look forward to as the town gears up for the Sandown Carnival. Keen to drum up new custom, café owner Vivette Fryer is planning a barbecue to give revellers a taste of her authentic Caribbean cooking. In Colwell Bay, former kite surfing champion Tom Court is making the most of the windy weather to brush up on his skills.

Into Alaska with Sue Perkins (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 23rd February 2024)

The presenter begins the last leg of her journey by facing up to her fear of flying – though before she even steps onto a plane, Sue has to survive a heart-racing air crash simulator. Then she takes off to see the mesmerising Kennicott Glacier, and parts of Alaska unreachable by road. Sue also visits the formerly abandoned ghost town of McCarthy.

Violet plans a day at the seaside – her first key event since becoming mayor. Having returned to Poplar, Cyril is working with problem families in the area, arranging for some to attend a new playgroup at St Oswald’s church. He invites them, including heavily pregnant Lindy Webster, to the excursion. Despite the poor weather everyone has a good time, but the atmosphere quickly changes when Lindy goes into labour. Dr Turner and Shelagh are blindsided when May’s future with them is called into question, Nurse Crane helps a young couple cope with a rare cancer diagnosis, while Trixie finally passes her driving test.

Death by a Thousand Hits (Part 1). Series 27, episode 7. As the team investigate the death of a Burmese man found on an abandoned beach, his young pregnant wife desperately hopes he is still alive. The Miners’ Strike 1984: The Battle for Britain (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Thursday 8th February 2024)

Power. Series 1, episode 3. The actions of millionaire Tory supporter David Hart, who worked behind the scenes to help Margaret Thatcher’s government defeat the prolonged strike by exploiting divisions between working and striking miners in the key county of Nottinghamshire. When – with Hart’s help – legal action was brought against the National Union of Mineworkers to freeze bank accounts, its chief executive Roger Windsor sought money from a controversial source – Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi. Then, in March 1985, beaten union leader Arthur Scargill announced the strike was over.

Community. Series 1, episode 1. The year-long dispute in the coal mining industry, which was an attempt by unions to prevent the closure of collieries advocated by the government of the day. The strike proved bitterly divisive, nowhere more so than in one Derbyshire pit village, Shirebrook, that came to be split down the middle in an increasingly violent struggle between striking and working miners. This episode tells the story of how Shirebrook descended into violence and division – a microcosm of what was happening in communities across the country.

Series 3, episode 7. Following Neville’s arrest on suspicion of killing David Cartwright, DI Karen Flitcroft from the Department of Policing Standards arrives to investigate. CCTV footage shows an agitated Neville visiting the victim shortly before he was found dead, which as far as Flitcroft is concerned proves his guilt – so she advises the team members that if they are convinced of their inspector’s innocence, they must prove it quickly.

Ian also hooks up with Two Doors Down star Alex Norton to visit the Callanish standing stones.
