The Giggle. Episode 3. The giggle of a mysterious puppet is driving the human race insane. When the Doctor discovers the return of an old enemy, he faces a fight he can never win. Neil Patrick Harris guest stars as 1960s villain the Toymaker and Ncuti Gatwa makes his debut as the latest incarnation of the Time Lord.

Heroes. Series 3, episode 8. David Attenborough introduces conservation heroes fighting to save the world’s wildlife, from exploring remote jungles to going undercover to catch criminals in the illegal ivory trade. In South Africa, new breeding populations of black rhino are set up in safe havens where they will be protected from poachers, while a conservationist in Ecuador works to protect endangered frogs.

Vigil (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Sunday 10th December 2023) ** NEW SERIES + PICK OF THE WEEK **

The return of the crime drama, starring Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie. When a British Air Force weapons test goes disastrously wrong, DCI Amy Silva is called in to investigate, and finds herself caught in the crosshairs of a fraught international incident. The Air Force think they have the guilty party in custody and push for Amy and DI Kirsten Longacre to close the case. But Amy isn’t convinced.

Vigil (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 11th December 2023)

Amy and Kirsten are battling for their lives, against a ruthless armed killer, as new evidence takes the case in a different direction. Amy travels to an Air Force base in the Middle East, where she learns someone on the base was complicit in the attack. Meanwhile in Scotland, Kirsten hunts down Chapman’s killer, determined not to let her pregnancy get in the way of her mission.

Vigil (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 12th December 2023) ** MUST WATCH **

Eliza warns Amy to get control of her investigation after an officer is stabbed on the base. Kirsten, who now works with MI5 partner Ramsay, uncovers key evidence that links a squadron member to the attack. The force is running out of leads on Chapman’s killer leaving Kirsten to follow a hunch.

The Gay Award. Series 3, episode 7. Felix and Lake open up to each other about their relationship troubles and Mia and Andrew question their futures. Victor has mixed feelings about accepting an award.

Planet Earth III (BBC 2/HD | 6:20pm to 7:20pm | Sunday 3rd December 2023)

Human. Series 3, episode 7. The ways in which wild animals have adapted to survive in human population centres, from cobras in India hunting in houses, to macaques in Bali stealing mobile phones to barter with temple staff in return for food. Rhinos walk through the streets of Sauraha, Nepal, while in Australia, tawny frogmouths find streetlights useful in catching prey, but have to avoid being eaten by household cats.

Shetland (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Wednesday 6th December 2023) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

As the police descend upon the Bain farm and begin their search, Calder and Tosh reunite to try to unravel the mystery. Police find a piece of Ellen’s clothing on the farm and Grace admits she argued with her the night Ellen left.

Forests. Series 3, episode 5.  David Attenborough journeys into the hidden world of forests, from the temperate rainforests of Canada, where rarely seen spirit bears fish for salmon, to the teak forests of India, where whistling wild dogs work together to bring down prey three times their size. In the misty mountainous forests of China, male tragopan have developed a comical dance routine, whilst in the dense tropical rainforest, treehoppers form surprising alliances to fight off assassin bugs and oriental pied hornbills go to incredible lengths to protect their young.

With the main suspect for the murder of Ellen Quinn in custody, Tosh orders the team to find enough evidence to charge them. Calder struggles with Jean’s revelation about her father. The team find the culprit for the recent animal killings.

Saving Lives at Sea (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Thursday 23rd November 2023)

All Hands on Deck. Series 8, episode 9. The North Berwick crew race out to save a windsurfer battling the seas, and they all fight the gale force winds of Storm Dennis on the east coast of Scotland. In Carrybridge, on the banks of Lough Erne, in Northern Ireland, the crew try to help a man who has become trapped under a digger on one of the lough’s islands.

The Last Leg (Channel 4/HD | 10:00pm to 11:05pm | Friday 24th November 2023)

Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker are joined by guests Katherine Ryan and Nabil Abdulrashid for a comic review of the significant moments of the past seven days.
