BBC launching five new HD channels

BBC logoHere is some great news, if like myself you love free HD channels. From 2014, BBC Three, BBC Four, CBBC, CBeebies and BBC News will all be distributed in HD on Freesat, Freeview and YouView. It will also be made available to other platform operators, including cable companies.

Meaning by the time you add BBC1 and BBC 2 HD. The BBC will have a total of 7 HD channels! Leaving only BBC Parliament in SD.

Out of all these new HD channels, I am looking forward to BBC News HD the most. Since other than BBC1 and BBC2 HD, it’s the BBC channel, I watch the most.

freesatSo pleased Kiss (channel 518), The Box (channel 519), Smash Hits (channel 521) and Kerrang! (channel 524) have all been added to the Freesat EPG today!

Now just have to hope that Heat and Magic TV channels, which also went free to air earlier this month also get added to the Freesat EPG at some point.

The Box, Heat, Kiss, Kerrang, Magic and Smash Hits are now FTA

Here is some more great news if you have Freesat. The Box, Heat, Kiss, Kerrang, Magic and Smash Hits are currently available without a Sky subscription and can now be tuned in on Freesat receivers in non-Freesat mode.

There still is no indication so far as to whether these are planning to join the Freesat EPG. So right now can only be viewed in non-Freesat mode.

It’s been a great number of months for new channel launches on Freesat. In December, Pick TV, Challenge and Sky News channels joined Freesat. RT HD became the platform’s sixth HD channel earlier this year.

Humax Foxsat HDR hard drive failed

Oh dear, oh dear. I have had my Humax Foxsat HDR since 28 Dec 2009. So I guess the hard drive has done well. At the time of getting it, a 320 GB hard drive in a PVR (personal video recorder) was seen has big. When I first got it. It only had one full time HD channel and that was BBC HD. Now it’s got BBC1 HD, BBC HD, ITV HD, Channel 4, RT HD and NHK World HD.

So the hard drive does soon fill up. When recording HD stuff. I only know, well hope it’s the hard drive that died. After reading about it on the Internet. The box started to reboot it’s self for no reason at all. It’s been doing that for a number of weeks. It gone to point, you would turn it on and it would just reboot it’s self.

Then yesterday I turned it on and it reformatted the hard drive. So pissed me off to say the least. I have now lost, years and years of TV programmes I wanted to keep. Also ones I had not gotten around to seeing.

So I have now unplugged the hard. See photo before, with it’s top off. That’s stopped the rebooting. Just means I can’t record anything with it :(.

Inside humax foxsat hdr

So today I have ordered a new 1TB hard drive for it. Which I do really hope fixes it. If not I have spent a lot on a new hard drive for no reason at all!!

Once I know, if it’s fixed it. I will post another update!! 🙂 Wish me wish!!

BBC Two HD launches 26th March 2013

BBC Two HDThe BBC has announced that the HD simulcast of BBC Two will launch just before Easter, on 26th March 2013.

BBC Two HD will replace the existing BBC HD Channel and will be available subscription-free on all digital television platforms offering HD channels.

The BBC Two HD channel will be a simulcast network version of the BBC Two schedule. Meaning that if you live in Scotland for example and want to watch Newsnight Scotland, you will have to tune back to BBC Two Scotland in SD.

I must say, I am not best pleased they are closed down BBC HD. Now where are they going to show content from BBC Three and BBC Four in HD?

More information about this can be found at www.a516digital.com/2013/02/bbc-two-hd-launches-26th-march.html.

RT HD comes to Freesat HD

The HD version of RT replaces the standard definition version on Freesat channel 206 for viewers with Freesat HD receivers.
