Dales Way : Day 2 : Burnsall to Kettlewell

That’s Bugsy, Mark G and myself done day 2 of the Dales Way, which took us 10.04 miles from Burnsall to Kettlewell.

Like yesterday, the weather was great, maybe a bit more windy. But still dry and sunny.

The highlight was walking around Grassington, which is also used has the fictional town of Darrowby in the 2020 Channel 5 series of All Creatures Great and Small.

Dales Way : Day 1 : Ilkley to Burnsall

Well that’s Bugsy, Mark G and myself done day 1 of the Dales Way, which took us 13.17 miles from the starting point in Ilkley to Burnsall.

We could not have had a better first day! Weather could not have been better! The ground was mainly dry, so we did not get that muddy. Plus was just the right temp for Bugsy.

During the first day we only stopped twice for drink and cake. Both stops within 1 mile of each other in the grounds of Bolton Priory.

Highlights of day 1, other than the great weather. Was seeing Bolton Priory, seeing The Strid, and of course making lots of new memories with Bugsy.

Right here are some photos from day 1. Plus our route can be found at www.strava.com/activities/8908272865

Everyone will know, if you follow me on Facebook, Twitter etc. At first, I just could not bond with him. Since I was still getting over losing Cooper. Also Bugsy, had a very good at winding up me!

Now had him for just over 1 year. And totally head over heels in love with him!

Here are just some of amazing adventures we’ve been on so far…

Monsal Trail

He walked the whole of the Monsal Trail, the from start to end, then back to the start! Covering a total distance of 18.53 miles!

You can check out the route we took at www.strava.com/activities/7834897778

Tan Hill Inn

He’s stayed at the Tan Hill Inn. Which is Britain’s highest public house at 1,732 feet (528m) above sea level.

Been to Scotland!

Well OK, he’s only walked about half a mile into Scotland. While doing day 1 of the England Coast Path! But it still counts, right?!?!

Dales Way, less than 2 weeks to go!

Hard to believe it’s less than 2 weeks, till Bugsy, Mark G and myself do The Dales Way! Which runs for 80 miles from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria.

The small section in red, is Dales Way Link – Harrogate to Ilkley. Which we did this week. Which can you can tell from the name of the walk, it took us from Harrogate to Ilkley. Covering a distance of 17.73 miles.

So please do keep watching this website… For more updates… It’s happening and very soon!!

Also make sure you follow me at www.strava.com/athletes/gsvalentine. Where I will post our route at end of each day, plus photos!

Dales Way Link – Harrogate to Ilkley! TICK!!

Let’s start with the only thing that pissed me off, during the whole day. That was LNER! We picked the 8.42am service from Grantham (GRA) to Harrogate (HGT). So we did not have to change at Leeds. So what did they go and do?!? But cancel the part running from Leeds to Harrogate.

Which also did piss me off. Since it was the first time, I had used a train this year. The railways really do not help themselves!

Also then found out information on Class 800s are well crap, kept telling us the train was still running all the way to Harrogate!

Right anyway moving on from that…. The walk was amazing. I loved each and every part of it! The weather could not have been better. Bugsy was so good the whole day! Love the young man he’s turned into!

The walk took us from Harrogate to Ilkley, following one the Dales Way Links, covering a distance of 17.73 miles.

You can check out the route at www.strava.com/activities/8826320475

More photos can be found at www.gordon-valentine.com/zenphoto/dales-way/

You will be pleased to hear LNER was great on the way back! We went First Class, since it only cost around £8 more!

First Class with LNER

First railway trip of 2023, booked!

Happy days. That’s me booked my first railway trip of 2023. Which will take us from Grantham to Harrogate. Which will tick off one new railway station for myself and two for Bugsy.

Then we are walking the Dales Way Link – Harrogate to Ilkley. Which covers around 16 miles, should take us between 6 to 8 hours.

Then we are getting the train back from Ilkley to Grantham via Leeds. Since it was only around £8 more, we are going First Class between Leeds and Grantham. Which will be a first for Bugsy!

So looking forward to this! Plus it’s a test day for doing the rest of the Dales Way in April…
