BBC launching five new HD channels

BBC logoHere is some great news, if like myself you love free HD channels. From 2014, BBC Three, BBC Four, CBBC, CBeebies and BBC News will all be distributed in HD on Freesat, Freeview and YouView. It will also be made available to other platform operators, including cable companies.

Meaning by the time you add BBC1 and BBC 2 HD. The BBC will have a total of 7 HD channels! Leaving only BBC Parliament in SD.

Out of all these new HD channels, I am looking forward to BBC News HD the most. Since other than BBC1 and BBC2 HD, it’s the BBC channel, I watch the most.

The very last BBC News broadcast from Television Centre

Many of you, may have never even have heard of Television Centre. It’s been the headquarters of BBC Television. Officially opened on 29 June 1960, it is one of the most readily recognisable facilities of its type having appeared as the backdrop for many BBC programmes.

So myself, like many others in the UK have growing up watching TV shows from Television Centre. Including Blue Peter, Children in Need, CBBC from ‘the Broom Cupboard’ and many others.

Below Simon McCoy and Sophie Long at the close of the last BBC News broadcast from Television Centre marking an end to over 45 years of broadcasting from the iconic site.

BBC Two HD launches 26th March 2013

BBC Two HDThe BBC has announced that the HD simulcast of BBC Two will launch just before Easter, on 26th March 2013.

BBC Two HD will replace the existing BBC HD Channel and will be available subscription-free on all digital television platforms offering HD channels.

The BBC Two HD channel will be a simulcast network version of the BBC Two schedule. Meaning that if you live in Scotland for example and want to watch Newsnight Scotland, you will have to tune back to BBC Two Scotland in SD.

I must say, I am not best pleased they are closed down BBC HD. Now where are they going to show content from BBC Three and BBC Four in HD?
