Alan Cumming goes on a trip aboard the Royal Scotsman train, presenting an odyssey through the heart of Scotland. In this first episode, Alan boards in Edinburgh and receives a tour of the train, getting an insight into the workings of the kitchen. He also takes a stroll across the Silver Sands of Morar, which featured in the movie Local Hero, and hears the story of the construction of the West Highland Line’s extension from Fort William to the fishing town of Mallaig.

The hunt for Ian Bett begins, and as Calder and Tosh survey the gruesome crime scene, a picture of victim Anton Bergen starts to emerge, prompting them to question whether they’re dealing with the revenge of a jealous ex-husband. They try to fill in the pieces by speaking to Bergen’s employers Karin and Stefan Jakobson – a wealthy Swedish couple who arrived in Shetland six months ago – and discover Bergen was a nurse to their chronically ill daughter Astrid, Meanwhile, Cora makes a shocking discovery during the post-mortem.

The annual telethon has been raising money for charities working with youngsters in the UK since 1980, with a little help from teddy bear mascot Pudsey.

Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 15th November 2024)

Devon. Series 8, episode 3. The comedian explores Devon, tries her hand at lawnmower racing, and at Arlington Court is whisked away on her own carriage ride through the estate’s picturesque gardens. At Lynton, on the Devon coast, she encounters the world’s highest and steepest water-powered railway. Susan also visits Dartington Crystal, where she marvels at the skill of master glassblowers.
