Boom. Series 14, episode 3. The Doctor and Ruby arrive on an alien battlefield, where the Time Lord is trapped in place by a landmine that will go off if he moves. Can he still save the planet while rooted to the spot? Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson star in an episode written by former showrunner Steven Moffat.

Doctor Who: Unleashed (BBC 3/HD | 7:35pm to 8:05pm | Saturday 18th May 2024)

Boom. Series 1, episode 3. An interview with Russell T Davies and former showrunner Steven Moffatt, who is back as the writer of this week’s episode Boom. Presenter Steffan Powell spends some time in the practical effects department.

Race Across the World (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Wednesday 22nd May 2024) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

The teams navigate their way through the Indonesian island of Sumatra, tackling ad-hoc transport, limited accommodation options and almost no English spoken. Before they begin the next leg of their journey, the teams celebrate Owen’s upcoming 21st birthday in the traditional Indonesian way, with a splattering of egg and flour.

Grand Tours of Scotland’s Rivers (BBC 2/HD | 7:30pm to 8:00pm | Friday 24th May 2024)

A Highland River. Series 3, episode 6. Paul Murton explores the River Oykel in Sutherland from its source in Assynt, to the Dornoch Firth and the sea. He learns about the loneliest and highest war grave in Scotland, tries for trout in a lochan over 1,000ft above sea level, and then hears tell of the riotous events of the Year of the Sheep.

Britain by Steam (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 24th May 2024)

Highlands. Series 2, episode 4. John Sergeant, Peter Davison and Paul ‘Piglet’ Middleton explore the Scottish Highlands. The trio start their journey on a ‘white’ steam car across the Cairngorms Mountain range. The vehicle is so exclusive that it used to carry American presidents. When they arrive in Aviemore, they board the Black 5, a spectacular train whose route takes them through a stunning valley and along the River Spey. The next day starts with a steam boat trip down Loch Ness and the last leg of their journey is aboard Heilan Laddy, a stream truck that looks incredible with a full and colourful history to match.
