First Time for Everything. Series 9, episode 4. In Castletownbere, Donagh faces a baptism of fire on his first ever shout, as the crew rescue a fisherman who’s suffered a suspected stroke. On the Somerset coast, the crew are called out to a Mayday from a houseboat that is sinking fast. In Newquay, a surfer has been caught out by the stormy seas, and is struggling to back it back to shore.

Beyond Paradise (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 5th April 2024) ** PICK OF THE WEEK **

A fishing trawler heads out to sea with three brothers and their ailing stepmother aboard. When it returns to Shipton Abbott harbour several hours later, only the three fishermen remain. A note found on deck suggests the woman took her own life. As her estranged daughter comes to town to help make funeral arrangements, the simple case grows more complex. Elsewhere, the day of the house visit arrives, though it’s no plain sailing for Humphrey and Martha. Detective drama, starring Kris Marshall, Sally Bretton, Zahra Ahmadi and Peter Davison.

A fact-fuelled ride through London’s tube network, mapping out the history of the world’s first – and most iconic – underground railway system. Viewers discover how this 160-year-old marvel of engineering manages to carry 1.3 billion passengers a year.

Great British Cities with Susan Calman (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 5th April 2024)

Glasgow. Series 1, episode 5.  The presenter is in Glasgow, uncovering the hidden history of her home city. Susan meets Professor Maria Fletcher to uncover the inspiring life of Madge Easton Anderson, a trailblazer who became the first female lawyer and forged the path of Susan’s own life. The comedian also delves into the Victorian entertainment scene with a look at the world’s oldest surviving music hall.
