First Time for Everything. Series 9, episode 4. In Castletownbere, Donagh faces a baptism of fire on his first ever shout, as the crew rescue a fisherman who’s suffered a suspected stroke. On the Somerset coast, the crew are called out to a Mayday from a houseboat that is sinking fast. In Newquay, a surfer has been caught out by the stormy seas, and is struggling to back it back to shore.

A fishing trawler heads out to sea with three brothers and their ailing stepmother aboard. When it returns to Shipton Abbott harbour several hours later, only the three fishermen remain. A note found on deck suggests the woman took her own life. As her estranged daughter comes to town to help make funeral arrangements, the simple case grows more complex. Elsewhere, the day of the house visit arrives, though it’s no plain sailing for Humphrey and Martha. Detective drama, starring Kris Marshall, Sally Bretton, Zahra Ahmadi and Peter Davison.

A fact-fuelled ride through London’s tube network, mapping out the history of the world’s first – and most iconic – underground railway system. Viewers discover how this 160-year-old marvel of engineering manages to carry 1.3 billion passengers a year.
Great British Cities with Susan Calman (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Friday 5th April 2024)
Glasgow. Series 1, episode 5. The presenter is in Glasgow, uncovering the hidden history of her home city. Susan meets Professor Maria Fletcher to uncover the inspiring life of Madge Easton Anderson, a trailblazer who became the first female lawyer and forged the path of Susan’s own life. The comedian also delves into the Victorian entertainment scene with a look at the world’s oldest surviving music hall.

Every Second Counts. Series 9, episode 3. In Porthcawl, a fisherman is dragged lifeless out of the sea by bystanders and the lifeboat crew race to the beach to join the desperate attempts to resuscitate him. A yacht loses control in Lytham St Annes and is in danger of breaking up on nearby Blackpool beach. The Poole crew are called out at 2am to look for a man who has fallen into the harbour.
The Sewer Map of Britain (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 29th March 2024)
Documentary investigating the hidden secrets of one of our oldest, and most crucial, networks – the sewers. A tour of the latest solution – London’s Tideway Tunnel – reveals its staggering scale – a 16-mile-long storage tank to hide sewage beneath the river Thames. There is also a trip to Hadrian’s Wall to marvel at how the Romans handled the sewage issue almost 2,000 years ago. Mark Benton narrates.

Leeds. Series 1, episode 4. The comedian travels to Leeds, and starts by delving into the city’s industrial past, visiting the iconic Armley Mill. Now a museum, Susan gets up close and personal with the working conditions of the industrial revolution. She then visits Hyde Park Picture House, a surviving First World War cinema. As her journey comes to an end, Susan meets Arthur France, the man responsible for the Leeds West Indian Carnival.

The team find themselves split between Saint Marie and the island of Saint Auguste, attempting to investigate the mysterious death of a British tourist. When the team uncover a series of startling connections between the victim and other guests at the hotel they were staying at, they realise nothing is quite what it seems in this case. Neville prepares to make a huge next step in his life, and a familiar face returns.

Away from the case, Humphrey and Martha embark on the process of becoming foster parents, while Anne catapults herself into the world of online dating. The Railway Map of Britain (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 22nd March 2024)
How the invention of the railway at the dawn of the 19th century changed the world, and the lives of engineers such as Stephenson, Telford and Brunel. Though great wealth was made on the back of steam power, many rail lines couldn’t break even and huge swathes of them were eventually axed from existence. Cameras also reveal how Britain’s railways are on the move again as HS2 plans to connect the most influential cities with their own high-speed, high-capacity rail line.
