Great news, if like myself you only have Freeview (I believe in better, by not having $ky). Both BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD are back. This time around 98.5% of UK households can them.

UK TV programmes to watch this week : 03/09/2022

Inside Central Station (BBC Scotland/HD & BBC iPlayer only | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Monday 5th September 2022) ** NEW SERIES + PICK OF THE WEEK **

The Network Rail helicopter takes to the skies to survey the lines around Central for faults and Drew calls in the emergency services to help with a pigeon trapped in the station. The Central team adapt as the station’s low level closes for eight weeks as part of a huge engineering project, while a Scotland game at Hampden Park sees the concourse flooded by football fans – but there’s not enough trains.

Days that Shook the BBC with David Dimbleby (BBC 2/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Tuesday 6th September 2022)

The veteran broadcaster offers his personal take on two crises that tested public trust in the corporation. Firstly, the Hutton Inquiry into the BBC’s coverage of the government’s dossier on weapons of mass destruction, following the Iraq War, featuring interview with Greg Dyke, Alastair Campbell and Andrew Gilligan, the journalist whose report led to the BBC’s clash with the government. He then turns his attention to the predatory paedophile Jimmy Savile, speaking to former Newsnight producer Meirion Jones who, suspecting Savile was a criminal, had interviewed one of Savile’s victims.

The Repair Shop (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Wednesday 7th September 2022)

Jay Blades hosts as the team restores an Olympic torch brought in by retired gymnast Greg Silvester, who won numerous medals at Special Olympics events over the course of his career, and was chosen to carry the Olympic torch as part of the build-up to the Sydney Games. They also work on a beloved stuffed toy cat, a broken jukebox and an enormous colourful sign salvaged by a local community in Scotland.

Changing Rooms (Channel 4/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Wednesday 7th September 2022)

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and interior designer Micaela Sharp head to the market town of Macclesfield to help husband-and-wife teams Milena and Simon, and Lois and Nick, add some anime wizardry to a 10-year-old’s grey bedroom, and create a tropical boutique dream in a plain and forgotten master bedroom. With the challenge to complete a huge, complex, Japanese-inspired build in one room, and a vast headboard in another, Laurence and Micaela draw on all their design magic to pull off their outsized designs in just 48 hours.

Shetland (BBC 1/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Wednesday 7th September 2022)

Perez tries to get the measure of Lloyd and, fearing they could ruin the life of an innocent man, asks for more time. Meanwhile, evidence emerges of another bomb-maker when a masked figure breaks into the agricultural suppliers and steals only fertiliser. The net closes in around Martin, and Sandy uncovers Connor’s interest in a piece of local history.

Grand Designs (Channel 4/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Wednesday 7th September 2022)

Kevin McCloud meets Kate and Rob, who have lived in a 1940s prefab house built by Rob’s grandfather. Originally designed to be lived in for just 10 years, this factory-built home is well past its sell-by date. Now, Kate and Rob are at last in a position to replace it with a bespoke, modern, warm home – which will also be built in a factory using volumetric modular construction. Over just six weeks, their new house will be manufactured on a production line, complete with insulation, tiling and kitchen installation.

Saving Lives at Sea (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Thursday 8th September 2022)

In Lyme Regis, on Dorset’s Jurassic coast, the crew face a frantic search for three fishermen whose boat has capsized in the River Axe. On the west coast of Scotland, the Oban crew dash across the water to the remote island of Kerrera to help an injured walker and, across the Irish Sea, the Kinsale crew have to act quickly to help a skipper who has single-handedly sailed his yacht across the Atlantic, but is now drifting without power towards rocks.

Martin Compston’s Scottish Fling (BBC 2/HD | 9:30pm to 10:00pm | Friday 9th September 2022) ** NEW SERIES **

The Line of Duty star travels across his homeland with his best friend TV presenter Phil MacHugh, to see how its people and landscape are shaping the country. Their journey begins in Martin’s hometown of Greenock, where Phil has arranged some unexpected transport across the water to sunny Dunoon. Here the boys indulge in an end-of-the-pier snapshot of the traditional seaside holiday Martin experienced as a boy – crazy golf and ice cream with a not-so-traditional local, BBC’s Drag Race winner Lawrence Chaney.
