UK TV programmes to watch this week : 31/10/2020

Top Gear (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 1st November 2020)

Paddy McGuinness introduces Chris Harris and Freddie Flintoff to his latest creation – an all-electric, all-terrain ice-cream van for the 21st century. Elsewhere, the team tests the battery-powered Honda E, Vauxhall Corsa-e and Mini Electric with a race around a deserted Alton Towers.

Paddington Station 24/7 (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 2nd November 2020)

The station gets back to the new normal, as Covid-19 restrictions ease on travel. Route Control keep a close eye on the weather forecast, which is predicting dangerously high winds. It’s not just fallen trees the team needs to be worried about – a large industrial unit has been blown right across the tracks and emergency services are on their way.

Children in Need: 40 Fabulous Years (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Wednesday 4th November 2020)

Ade Adepitan takes viewers on a funny, poignant and revealing tour across four decades of Children in Need.

Rob Bell’s Trident Submarine (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Wednesday 4th November 2020)

For the first time on British television, cameras are granted access to one of the UK’s nuclear missile submarines at sea, as Rob Bell spends five days and nights living on board the HMS Vengeance. With unprecedented access, he explores the sonar room, torpedo bay, and nuclear missile tubes loaded with deadly warheads, and later finds himself in real danger along with the rest of the crew when a fault in the engine room turns into a potentially serious incident.#

Secret Scotland (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 6th November 2020)

The comedian ventures to the islands of Mull and Staffa, nestled along the west coast of Scotland and home to some of the most breathtaking sights the country has to offer. Beginning her trip in Staffa, Susan visits the cathedral-like cavern of Fingal’s Cave, one of the UK’s true natural wonders formed over thousands of years. Her need for speed is fulfilled when she witnesses the Mull Rally, while in Tobermory, she visits a biscuit factory run on sustainable energy. Lastly, the presenter goes in search of the largest bird of prey in the UK – the white-tailed sea eagle.

Top Gear (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 25th October 2020)

Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness head to Wales, taking a glamorous road trip in the newest grand tourers from Bentley, Aston Martin and McLaren, before taking on their German rivals and Formula One legend Heinz-Harald Frentzen. Plus, a tribute to Stirling Moss.

Michael Palin: Travels of a Lifetime (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 25th October 2020)

Michael reflects on his fourth travel series, exploring the Sahara. This journey brought him into contact with nomads, refugees and artists who had sought out this vast desert, but also those displaced by war, the migrant crisis and the rise of militant Islam. The journey took Michael over the Atlas Mountains, to a Smara refugee camp, to the famed city of Timbuktu, and into the deep desert as part of a camel train.

Enslaved with Samuel L. Jackson (BBC 2/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Sunday 25th October 2020)

A look at the campaign to bring the slave trade to an end after 400 years. Divers explore the sunken remains of a ship that had been carrying freed slaves who had been recaptured. Having traced his own ancestry back to the Benga people of Gabon, Samuel visits the country to learn more of their traditions and stories. Plus, a trip to Costa Rica in search of evidence of escapees from two Danish slave ships.

Paddington Station 24/7 (Channel 5/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Monday 26th October 2020)

The return of the documentary going behind the scenes at the London station. It is the height of summer and staff and passengers on the Western network are feeling the heat, with Network Rail staff positioned at key points to monitor the track – which can reach temperatures up to 20C higher than the air temperature.

Secret Scotland | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 30th October 2020)

The comedian explores the area between Glasgow and Edinburgh, paying a visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens and setting to work as an assistant keeper at Edinburgh Zoo. She learns about Scotland’s forgotten ceramics industry during a visit to the seaside suburb of Portobello, gets a crash course in laying tables on the Royal Yacht Britannia, and gains special access to the country’s busiest railway station.\

Top Gear (BBC 1/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 18th October 2020)

Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness head to Cyprus on a budget rental car adventure and sample the exciting new sport of car water-skiing. Back at the test track, Chris and Paddy check out the latest family cars from Audi and Lamborghini.

Michael Palin: Travels of a Lifetime (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Sunday 18th October 2020)

Michael Palin recalls the making of his third travel series Full Circle, a journey around the Pacific Rim which took him to Russia, China, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand and North and South America. This series saw Michael adopting a more investigative role than in previous odysseys, particularly when encountering the drug wars and poverty that plagued Colombia. With contributions from David Attenborough and Joanna Lumley.

Enslaved with Samuel L. Jackson (BBC 2/HD | 9:00pm to 10:00pm | Sunday 18th October 2020)

A look at those who resisted slavery, including the famous Underground Railroad and freedom boats that helped runaway slaves to escape to the safety of Canada, using a network of safe houses to make the perilous journey north. The programme also examines the influence of famous freedom fighter Harriet Tubman and the black soldiers who served in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Saving Lives at Sea (BBC 2/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Tuesday 20th October 2020)

The Fraserburgh crew race to save a stricken fishing boat without a working rudder in a force-eight gale. On Loch Ness, a yacht becomes trapped on a weir, and one wrong move by the lifeboat crew could send it over the edge. On the north Devon coast, the Minehead crew comes to the aid of a puppy that has swallowed a fishing hook.

Secret Scotland (Channel 5/HD | 8:00pm to 9:00pm | Friday 23rd October 2020)

The comedian explores Aberdeenshire and Angus on Scotland’s north-east coast – a vast area of cliffs, beaches, rolling hills and fertile farmland. Susan begins with a visit to Glamis Castle, the childhood home of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, where she learns about the castle’s role in the Second World War, tells the time on Scotland’s largest sundial and is let loose with the pruning shears on a very special grape vine. Later, Susan is given a crash course in seal first aid and learns of the Aberdonian who inspired escapologist Harry Houdini.

Done more 1,100 cycling miles than in 2019

That’s me now done 1,100 more miles on the bike than in 2019! Last year, only did 2,357.9 miles which was not the best! So far in 2020, I’ve done 3,458.7. So should make my goal of 4,000 miles before the year is out!

Do love my new Scotland cycling kit!

Do really love my new Scotland cycling kit! No it’s not because I am Scottish… When in fact, I was born in England, but did grow up in Scotland! So Scotland, will always be my home. Just see myself more has British. The main reason I love it, is of course the because of white Lycra shorts!! Now come on people, stop asking for it to rain all the time!! LOL! 🙂
