Walking through the Falkirk Tunnel, in Scotland. Could well be the highlight of my Scottish holiday. It’s 630 meters long, making it by far the longest canal tunnel, I’ve ever walked through. Thinking of it, it could well be the only canal tunnel, I’ve walked through. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a single other one, with a towpath, running through the tunnel.
So if, ever up in Scotland and looking for something very different. Then I would, recommend, going for a walk through the Falkirk Tunnel!
The route we took, started at Camelon railway station, then along part of the Forth and Clyde Canal, to the Falkirk Wheel, then along the Union Canal, to Polmont railway station. A distance of 9.58.

Its certainly good to walk through and then to see the Falkirk Wheel as you come through!
Think you have got Roughcastle Canal and the Falkirk Tunnel mixed up! The Falkirk Tunnel, is a good mile or so away from the Falkirk Wheel. Roughcastle Canal is at the top of the wheel.
